Construction Knowledge (Earthwork) Series: Erosion Control Acronyms

Before digging into Earthwork and Excavation (pardon the dad joke), it’s important to cover erosion control.  If you don’t have measures in place before you start digging, you will create a mess onsite and allow dirt and dirty water to leave the site.  Allowing dirt and dirty water to leave the site can pollute adjacent waterways, create unhealthy air for breathing and make a mess of our roadways.  Here are a few acronyms that get thrown around early on a jobsite that will help you understand what people are talking about.

T.E.S.C. = Temporary Erosion & Sediment Control

C.E.S.C.L. = Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead

S.W.P.P.P. = Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan

B.M.P. = Best Management Practice
